Daniel Teo

Singapore

Daniel (Teo Boon How) was born in 1989 in Singapore and grew up in Hougang.

He studied in Xinmin Primary school and then to Hougang Secondary school.

In 2002 he worked as a leaflet distributor for a furniture shop before studying for a diploma at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) from 2008 to 2011.

During his first year in NAFA, he is one of the top students, he was chosen for a 28 days Europe trip of museum hopping.

This exploration and new experience of various art and culture, from architecture to contemporary art, had helped him developed a belief system and gain new understanding.

His interest in sculpture was born from observing renaissance arts in the Louvre Museum. He graduated from NAFA with a diploma in Fine Arts (sculpture).

In 2011, he enters Singapore Police Force (SPF) for his mandatory national conscription. During his time in SPF, he fell in love with history and decisive battles of ancient wars. 

In 2013 he was release from his duty, he  started working in a travel agency. He traveled to various countries to learn more about culture and history. He wanted to investigate and see beyond Singapore. His travels to Asia and Europe allowed his mind and perspective to grow exponentially.

Boon How wanted to get back into the art scene. He started teaching art to children in art studios and for school workshops. He made regular visits to art museums, where he chanced upon a design exhibition. He became inspired by the creative potential of design, he wonders about his future with fine arts.

He foresaw an emerging new form of art, a type of triad art form, which fine arts, design and technology merges. His desires for aesthetics, usability and uniqueness, which developed his new obsession, the tripartite arts.

In 2015, he founded Studio Semantics, in the pursuit of his passion. He taught himself the tools of design with the help of the internet. To further learn and understand the fundamentals of design, he decided that the most efficient way to learn design, is to learn on the job.  

He took up freelance, bid for jobs and gotten full-time designer jobs. He worked with various companies and gain many important lessons and experiences that is paramount to his growth.  

In 2016, he decided to participate in a draw thread on the internet— started an obsession to create something new every day which he posts it to his Instagram. The resulting is the process of an interchangeable, integration of fine arts and design.
